After about 6 months of ownership I became a ware of a short squealing sound when pulling away in first gear. Mileage then was about 27,000. I took it to a Kia dealership who said it was the clutch but warned me that it may not be covered by the warranty as it is a wear and tear item.

It had 92k miles on it when I bought it and now is up to 105k. I had an unpleasant surprise at the end of Nov when it failed the MOT on front subframe corrosion.

Transmission problems are expensive to fix unless the car is under warranty. Suggest you get a second opinion from a reputable KIA dealer. Somebody very unhelpfully smashed my car passenger window, and whatever they smashed it with had gone on to hit the gear stick with some force.
